A body has been retrieved in the search for a man who went missing from a boat on Boondooma Dam on Thursday.

The body was found about midday today.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Searchers believe they have found the body of a 74-year-old man missing since last week in a dam in Queensland’s South Burnett region.

The man was last seen in an inflatable dinghy at Boondooma Dam, about 340 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, about 5:45am on Thursday

A search and rescue operation —  involving police, the SES, dam workers, aerial resources and locals — was launched at the dam when the Fraser Coast man's dinghy was found empty with its motor running close to the dam's shore about 9:15am.

Police on Monday said a body "believed to be that of the missing man" was found within the search area at midday.

They said the man, from Glenwood, near Gympie, regularly visited the dam and was believed to be fishing in Little Cove when he went missing.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
